Hello. My name is Tara, and I am a one of you. Like most of us in healthcare, we've had a difficult few years. This has left me feeling exhausted, burned out, and not really enjoying the career I once loved and felt passionate about. I knew I needed to make a change in my life, but I didn't exactly know what or how.
That's when I learned an important lesson from my young adult children. They helped me realize I wasn't prioritizing myself. As a wife, a mother, and a pharmacist, I had given all I had to everyone else, and that left me with nothing for myself. My kiddos taught me that it wasn't only okay to put myself first, but priorizing my own self-care was really a necessity to live a happy and balanced life. Ah ha, there was my light bulb moment.
From that moment, I started exploring and learning about self-care. What I found out was really interesting and made so much sense. A holistic approach to self-care includes exploring all the areas of YOU, known as dimensions. When we think of self-care, we usually think about resting and taking brain breaks, but physical and mental self-care are only part of the self-care process. To really take care of ourselves means addressing the emotional, social, spiritual, intellectual, environmental, financial, and professional dimensions as well.
Because prioritizing my own self-care has made a difference in my life and career, I wanted to share what I have learned, and really continue to learn, with other women in pharmacy. I am glad you are here and hope you will also start a journey to prioritizing yourself. By becoming the best version of YOU, you may find more balance, clarity, and happiness in the other areas of your life. With love and support, Tara
